FUN IN THE SUN PARTY DECORATIONS

If you can, outdoors is definitely the way to throw this party, especially with a little extra barbecue incentive. If you've got a backyard, consider setting up a cute little wading pool, sand box, or even consider a picnic blanket (and serve picnic food). Buy a bunch of beach balls at the dollar store, pick up some flip flops for your guests, and get ready to enjoy! Then greet your guests with this personalized Fun in the Sun banner over your door:

FUN IN THE SUN PARTY GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

Get the party started with these beach-themed outdoor games.

Water war

Get the kids on either side of the kiddie pool and have a fun tug-of-war!

Balloon bursts

There are a variety of games you can play with water balloons while your outdoors. Try this 'balloon pass' type game. Form two teams of kids in two lines. One kid passes the balloon under his/her legs to the one behind, who passes it over his/her head until the end where it goes in a bucket. The team that has the most unbroken balloons in the bucket at the end wins. Or you could just have a good old fashioned water balloon fight if it's hot enough.

Musical beach towels/picnic blankets

Same as the usual musical chairs theme, just have the beach towels or the picnic blankets as your 'chairs'. A variation on this includes removing a blanket/towel after each round so that all the kids have to work together at the end to stand on one blanket/towel. It's a fun way to play the game and encourage teamwork.

Sprinkler red rover

Same as the regular version, but have the sprinkler running so the ones called over has to run through it on their way to the other side.

Fishing pond

Use the kiddie pool to have the kids fish with a rod holding a magnet to catch little laminated fish with paper clips on the ends. Or you could have them do it blindfolded in order to pull out different items then guess what the items are before removing the blindfold.

Wipe out

Pull out the classic 60's song and get the kids to 'surf dance' and then freeze. Or you could also use one of the Beach Boys' songs as an alternative.

Flip flop decorating

Pick up a bunch of plain flip flops and decorate them with ribbons, sequins, beads and other fun items for the guests to take home.

Sand treasures

If you have a sandbox, put in a bunch of fun treasures buried before the party and let the guests go digging for treasure!

The beautiful thing about the beach party is that you can take so many of the classic games and transform them. Get your kids into the planning by asking them what their favorite games would be.
