Blue's Clues® Birthday Party

This Blue's Clues® Birthday Party Guide has got birthday party games, decorations, and party activites, and treats for a tail-waggin' good time!

BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS

Mail invitations 3-4 weeks before your party.

Make make your own invitations by cuttin 3x5 cards from bright blue cardstock paper. Add paw prints with a stamp pad and paw-print rubber stamp. Use a gel pen to add your text and details. Print this on each invite:
Here's a clue just for you...  balloons, cake and confetti  too...  It's a Party!

BIRTHDAY PARTY DECORATIONS

There's nothing Blue likes better than a festive birthday party!

Begin with matching balloons, streamers, and tableware. Cover your table with white or blue butcher paper. Use a rubber paw-print stamp or cut paw prints from blue paper and scatter them around the table. Add a centerpiece by tying a bouquet of balloons to a Blues Clues stuffed toy.

Make large blue and magenta paw prints to mount on the walls, windows, and floor. For an extra special touch, enlist a teenage helper to make Joe and Blue's house using a large appliance box. Paint the walls orange. Cut doors and windows. An extra large piece of cardboard painted red will make the roof. The kids will enjoy playing in this special house!

BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES & ACTIVITIES

Below are several fun ideas for this theme. Select the activities that best suit your party space and the age of the children.

Welcome Time

Your guests will know they are in a for a fun "pawty", when you give them an orange "joe-shirt" and a pair Blue's ears upon arrival!

Purchase large, orange tee-shirts for each guest. The shorts should be big enough to fit comfortably over their existing clothing.

Handy Dandy Notebooks

Purchase small spiral notebooks for each child. Provide fabric scraps, ribbon, stickers, markers, glue etc. The children will decorate their own "Handy-Dandy Notebook" to take home!

What's In the Box

No Blue's Clues® party theme would be complete without the clues! Before the party wrap something special in a box.  Keep it simple so that the children can understand the clues (try balloons, cookies, candy, balls etc.) Write or draw clues on blue paw prints and hide them in the party area. Show the children the box and tell them what's inside is a secret! The party guests will need to find all of the clues (paw prints) and work together. When they correctly guess what's in the box, open the box and give each child a treat or prize from inside.

The Thinking Chair

Cover a chair with special red fabric. Place several easily recognized items on a tray (like, blocks, spoon, blue's clue toy, a crayon, etc.). Gather the children in a circle around the thinking chair. Show them the tray with all of the items. The first player will sit in the thinking chair. You will leave the room with the tray, remove an item off of the tray. When you return with the tray can the player in the thinking chair guess what's missing? Keep playing until all of the children have had a turn.

Doodles Guessing Game

You'll need a wipe of white board and wipe off markers. Gather the children in a circle. Tell them you need their help to figure out the picture on Doodles board. Begin Drawing simple pictures (like a house, a flower, a sailboat etc.) As you draw small parts of the picture ask if they can guess what the picture will be. When the children have guessed, complete the simple drawing!

Do the Blue with Boogie Woogie

Play a Blues Clue's CD, while the kids dance with Blue's special dance moves. Show the children the steps first, to help them feel more comfortable:
How to do-the-Blue!
Swing your arms from side to side, sway your head, and swish your hips around. Then do them all together!
*Don't forget the video camera!

Paw Puzzler

Before the party, print out Blues Clues pictures from the Internet, or use a coloring book. Use a glue stick to affix each picture onto some construction paper. Cut the pictures into 2, 3, or 4 puzzle pieces. Hide the pieces around the party area. The children will each find one puzzle piece and then find the the players with the matching piece/s.

Walk with Blue

Before the party, cut paw print shapes from felt. Write large numbers or shapes on each stone with a permanent marker. At the party, when its game time form a circle using the stones. The children will walk from paw to paw while Blue's Clues® music is playing. When the music stops, call out a number.  Whoever is standing on the paw print with the corresponding number will receive a small prize (sticker or candy). Repeat this game until all of the children have received at least one treat!

Pin the Paw on Blue

This game is played just like "Pin-the-tail on the Donkey." Find a print out pattern, and use it for your game.

Make Your Own Blue's Clues® Hat

Materials:

  • inexpensive painter's caps (you'll find these at your local paint store)
  • three shades of blue felt or fleece
  • red felt for Blues' tongue
  • navy blue fabric paint for the eyes
  • iron-on adhesive and/or fabric glue (adult use ONLY)

Directions: Cut the ear shapes with light blue fleece. Use the darker blue felt/fleece to make 2 darker blue spots for each ear. Blue's nose is cut from the darkest blue (nose optional). Attach the spots with fabric glue or iron-on adhesive (craft store). Then affix the ears to the sides of the cap with fabric glue or a few sewn stitches. Use the navy blue fabric paint to  make Blue's eyes on the front of the cap. Cut a small pink or red oval tongue and attach to the bill of the cap (optional).

More Tips:

  • For younger party goers, it's always a good idea to provide a quiet coloring space. Set out coloring sheets and crayons  on a table or mat for the children to enjoy.

BLUES CLUES BIRTHDAY PARTY FOOD

Dog-Bone Sandwiches

Make kid-friendly sandwiches like cheese, PB&J and turkey. Cut the sandwiches with a Dog-bone cookie cutter.

Provide fruit and carrot sticks. Kids love to dip so, add a ranch dip or yogurt fruit dip.

Blue's Berry Special Drink

Make blue Italian soda with blueberry flavored Italian syrup, soda water and half & half. (Some children may not want the half & half, so ask before making.) Top with Whipped cream and some blue sprinkles. Offer Magenta's special drink as well, using raspberry syrup.

Blue's Clues® Birthday Cake

We found several ways to make a Blue's Clue Dog cake. However, we found this mailbox cake to be easier. You'll need a rectangle sheet cake and a round cake to cut into your shape. Frost with purple frosting and out line the mailbox door with pink decorator frosting. The flag is made with red fruit leather, smile is red licorice. Make the eyes using white Necco candy wafers and a black gel decorating tube.

TIPS: Freeze your cakes in wax paper for easy cutting. To achieve a true purple or lavender frosting you will need to use Wilton's cake decorating food color paste (craft or cake decorating supply shop).

BLUES CLUES BIRTHDAY PARTY FVORS

If your guests are young, settle them down before leaving with a Blue's Clues® Story book or DVD. Then, pass out the goody bags as they leave. Play and sing Joe's Good-bye song!
