With a month remaining of summer vacation,
kids are "antsy"
and parents have used up all of the creativity they can muster
--
This cool-down recipe could be the cure you need !
You'll Need:
4 cups green ice cream
4 cups pink ice cream
½ cup chocolate chips
Large bowl lined with foil
Spoon
Alarm clock or kitchen timer
Platter
Directions:
1.Chill the bowl for 30 min in the freezer.
2. Shape a 2 inch layer of green ice cream
around the inside of the bowl.
Tip: I cover a smaller bowl with plastic wrap and lay it in the
larger bowl of ice cream to hold the shape.
3. Return the bowl to the freezer.
4. After 3hours, start softening the pink ice cream
to a consistency that can be stirred.
Stir in chocolate chips. Spoon the pink mixture into the
bowl with the frozen green ice cream
5. Freeze until firm ,about 3 more hours.
6.When the ice cream is fully frozen,
place upside down on the platter.
Cut into wedges .
Yummy!
Tips:
This is a great summer birthday dessert.
Our family used lime and raspberry sherbet.
It was a cool treat on a hot day!
KICK THE CAN ICE-CREAM
A yummy treat for kids to make while staying active.
You'll Need
1 cup very cold milk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 tablespoons of chocolate syrup
Ice
2 empty, clean coffee cans (one larger than the other)
Rock salt
Mix together the milk, sugar, syrup and vanilla in a pitcher.
Pour the mix into the smaller can and cover it with the lid.
Place the sealed smaller can into the bigger can. Put ice and
rock salt around the smaller can. Now cover the larger can.
Here is the fun part. KICK the can around (not too hard) between friends or family,
just like if you were playing soccer. The more you roll it, the faster
it will become a tasty homemade ice-cream!
It takes approximately 30 minutes.
