RATATOUILLE BIRTHDAY DECORATIONS
When decorating for this party think, Paris the "City of Lights"
Hang travel posters of Paris landmarks and cityscapes. Add white mini-lights around the room. Cover the party table with a white linen cloth (white sheet will do). Create a table runner using a long piece tulle fabric gently placed over a few more strands of white mini-lights. Battery operated lights work best. Add a few Ratatouille toys and decorations to complete the mood.
VARIATION
You can also have fun with a a cooking themed table. Create a centerpiece by adding a bouquet of flowers or balloons to a large soup pot.
Place cooking utensils; spatula, ladle etc. down the center of the table.
Upon arrival provide each guest with a chef's hat and apron.
The addition of Remy whiskers and nose applied with face paint will be a cute touch.
RATATOUILLE PARTY GAMES AND ACTIVITIES
Party games and activities that would most certainly please Remy the rat!
The Nose Knows
In the movie Ratatouille, Remy is able to create his masterpieces using only his heightened sense of smell.
Can the kids at your party smell as well as Remy?
Before the party, fill several baby food jars with familiar scents;garlic, lemon, rose water, bubble gum scent, peppermint, lavender, vanilla, coffee etc.
Your local craft store will have jars of candle and soap scents in liquid form. Baking extracts also work well. Place a few drops of the scents on cotton balls and close the lids. When it's time top play the children will take turn wearing a blindfold and testing their ability to guess the correct
scent.
Ladle Relay
Divide the children into teams. then divide the teams so that half of the children are on opposite sides of the play space.
Using soup ladles (two for each team), the players will pass and egg, ball, orange or whatever you choose from one player to the next. The first team to complete all fop the players wins!
If you are playing outdoors, you can adapt this party game so that the children are scooping water from a large soup pot running to pour the water into another pot, returning to give the ladle to the next player. First team to empty the pot wins.
Catch the Rat
Before the party, cut several pieces of yellow paper, or craft foam resembling slices of cheese. Designate a spot in the yard as "the Kitchen". Place the pieces of cheese randomly around "the kitchen". An adult or teen helper will wear a chef's hat and guard the kitchen while the children attempt to steal pieces of cheese. If a "rat" is tagged they stay in the kitchen.
Variation: Instead of cheese, you can use play food which you may already have in your child's toy chest!
Off to the Kitchen!
After a few games invite the children into the kitchen, or at a table
where they'll find the ingredients to make their own mini English muffin
pizzas and fruit kabobs.
When meal time is complete the children can use fabric paint pens to decorate their aprons, or markers to decorate their chef's hats.
For a quiet activity, provide a few Ratatouille coloring books or sheets and some crayons until parents arrive for pick-up.
