Over the Hedge Birthday Party - Party Ideas for Kids

OVER THE HEDGE PARTY SUPPLIES
For stress-free party planning, order your party supplies on-line.
Then use these simple birthday party ideas and tips to complete the event!

OVER THE HEDGE PARTY INVITATIONS
Mail invitations 2-3 weeks in advance. Keep the invitation
equation in mind: child's age + 1 = a fun party!
For example if your child is turning four...invite five children.
As children get older, they can probably handle more guests,
and so can you.

Purchase invitations to match your theme, or make some with
cardstock paper, Over the Hedge comic strips and gel pens.
The birthday child can help!
"Your invited to the Suburbs for a fun- filled party!"

OVER THE HEDGE PARTY GAMES AND IDEAS
Purchase the Over the hedge Movie to enjoy during the party.
Decorate your party room with green, brown, and blue balloons, streamers plates and napkins.

Supply kid-safe face paint, cotton swabs  and a few mirrors. They'll enjoy adding animal features to their faces to transform themselves into the cast of Over the Hedge; whiskers, noses, raccoon mask etc.
*For younger children, provide and adult or teen helper with the face paint.

Serve a light lunch of hot dogs or sandwiches, veggies,
dip, fruit punch and don't forget the "Spuddies" (Pringles chips).

Over the Hedge Party Games
Release some energy with a few of these entertaining party games.

Feed the Bear Obstacle Course
Set this game up before going to the movie.
You'll need a large safe space, red wagon, lawn furniture, cones,
ropes, tires etc. and play food or empty food containers.
The object is to successfully pull the red wagon from one end
of the obstacle course to the other while picking up food along
the way. You may choose to play this game in turns, or set the children
up into relay race teams depending on how many children are involved.
Variation: If you are particular creative, paint a bear on a large box.
The children will run one at time through the course, while gathering one or two items of food. Then place the food into the Bear Box at the end of the course and return the wagon to the other players.

"Verminator" Freeze Tag
This game of tag is easy to prepare and burns off lots of kids energy!
You'll play this just like regular tag except that "IT" will put on an orange vest when they take their turn.

Find Hammy's Nuts
Before the party hide nuts throughout the party area. The children
will race the clock to find as many nuts as they can and carry them
to a bucket. The trick is that the players can only find and carry one
nut at a time.

What's Over the Hedge?
This is a simple variation on a carnival "fishing" game.
You'll Need: A large green tarp, clothespins, wood dowels, fishing line
or string, food prizes (M&M's, chips, lollipops, jolly ranchers etc.) bags,
note paper and an adult helper.
Hang the green tarp to represent the "Hedge". Before the party, make one
or two fishing lines with the dowel, string and clothespins.
Place the food items or prizes into bags if necessary. Write messages on note paper or index cards ex: "We're sorry you've been caught by the "Verminator", "Humans are home, no food collected", Human's are out of food, try again".

To Play:
The adult helper will stand with the food and messages on one side of the Hedge. The players will take turns casting their fishing line over the hedge.
The helper places a bag of food or a note onto the clothes pin and the player reels the line in to see what they received. Players will take turns until all of the items are distributed. Of course, be sure that all of the players have received food or a prize to take home.

R.J.'s Golf Bag
Create simple relay race with two golf bags and various items to go into
the golf bag. The teams will race to fill their bags first, one player at a time.

Follow the games with cake, ice cream and gift opening.

Don't forget to say thank you by giving each guest a
fun-filled party bag!
