A SPECIAL HORTON BIRTHDAY PARTY WELCOME
Your little Horton fans will know they're in for a fun-filled party as you present them with a pair of
their own elephant ears upon their arrival!
Kit's Tip - I always suggest preparing all crafts before the
party...
it can get pretty crazy!

You'll need
Large sheets of gray construction paper or craft foam
Pink paper (optional)
Scissor
Glue Dots or glue sticks (optional)
Stapler
Marker

Fold the large pieces if paper in half (possibly before the party)
and draw the ear shape. Cut out the ears keeping the paper folded
(this will produce two symmetrical ear pieces. Cut one long strip of
paper for the headband about.
Wrap the strip of paper around the child's head to measure the width
and mark it with the marker. Staple the piece of paper to make the
headband loop. Then using the stapler, attach the ears to the sides
of headband. If you want you can have the children cut smaller pink
ears to glue inside the gray ones. Write the child's name on the front of the headband.
HORTON HEARS A WHO
BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES Select 2-3 games to entertain
the children at your party. Keep you space and the age of the
children in mind.
Pin the Dust Speck on the Clover
Play this game just as you would "Pin The Tail on the Donkey".
Fashion a large pink clover on a sheet of white poster board, by
either drawing or use pink and green paper (flower and stem)
Provide each child a small white circle of paper (speck) with double
sided tape on the back. The children will take turns attempting to
get the speck on the clover while wearing a blind fold on or just
closing their eyes.
For an extra challenge, spin each player a few times and head them
in the right direction.
Kit's Tip: Small children may prefer not to wear a blindfold or to
be spun
"Feed Yummo"
Paint a Yummo the monkeys face on a box using one large gray
black or brown
circle for the head and two smaller circles for the ears. Use a utility
knife
(ADULTS ONLY), to cut a large opening where the mouth would
be and add the eyes and nose with black paint.
Now make or purchase 3-4 yellow beanbags (bananas). Socks filled
with dried beans and secured with rubber bands will work
well.
To play, mark an "X" the floor where the
player will stand. Place the "monkey box" a reasonable
distance form the "X" and the children will
take turns
feeding the hungry monkey his bananas!
tip: Enlist a talented teen to paint your monkey!
Protect the Speck
Relay
Race
Teams will race to the finish line holding a pink clover in a spoon!
Divide the players into teams. Provide each team with a spoon and a
pink pom-pom ball (craft store). Designate a start and finish line.
The children will take turn racing to the finish line and back to
their team holding the pom-pom in the spoon. If you use larger
pom-poms it will make the game more challenging!
Horton Jumps
Use a large bed sheet or purchase a GYMBOREE style playground
parachute. Gather the children and some adults
to form a circle around the parachute. Hold the edges and
work together to move it up and down. Once the children get the
hang of it, allow a few children at a time, to go under the
"dome". Then place a stuffed elephant in the center and
make Horton Jump!
Who-ville Safety
Inflate a few balloons...white or pink will do.
the object of the game if to keep the balloons off of the ground as
long as possible. the children will gently tap the balloons to keep
them in play.
Keep adding more balloons and play the Horton Hears a Who soundtrack
to increase the fun.
If you still need more games to choose from ,you'll find these in

HORTON HEARS A WHO BIRTHDAY PARTY FAVORS
Exclusive Birthday in a Box favor sets are a fun and unique way to give your guests a special treat!
The
Horton Hears Who part favor sets
are designed to coordinate perfectly with your party theme.

Delight your guests with a unique elephant party favor cup.
You'll need:
Can - about 4" tall, wash and remove label , yogurt cup or gray
paper cup
glue
Scissors
Tape
Crayons or markers
Gray construction paper
Wiggle eyes or white construction paper
How to make it:
Cut a piece of paper large enough to cover the outside of the
can. Tape it to the can. Fold a (6" x 4" ) piece of gray paper
in half. Cut out an ear shape to make two ears. Make a fold
about 1/4 " wide down the "inside" part of the ears. Make a cut
halfway down the fold and bend one part of the inside part
forward and one part backwards. When you glue them to the can,
it will make the ears "stand up." Cut out the trunk. Use a
pencil to
"curl the trunk" so that it will stand out from the can instead
of laying flat. (You take a pencil and the end part of the trunk
and roll the paper gently around the pencil about halfway up the
trunk.) Make a 1/4" fold at the top and glue the trunk to the
can. Glue on two wiggle eyes or use the white paper and a
black pen to make your own eyes and glue them on the can on
either side of the trunk. Fill the elephant with fun party
treats, stickers, pencil, bubbles etc.
Tip: these make a great table place setting decoration as well!
BIRTHDAY CAKE AND TREATS
1. Make a simple sheet cake and frost it with green
frosting.
Top with animal toys.
Kit's Tip: I always use toys for cakes and centerpieces
because
they can double as a birthday gift when the party is over!
