Make a "Yes, We Can!" Can
Inspired by Laura Young ,Craft Editor at Kaboose.com
Adapted By Kit Bennett Founder AmazingMoms
President Elect Obama’s campaign slogan “Yes we can !” has been an inspiration to many citizens.
It’s a simple yet powerful reminder that we are a great nation and if we work together anything can be accomplished.
Making this “Yes, We Can” craft and saving money with your family, classroom or scout troop provides an opportunity for fun as well as a valuable lesson in civic responsibility.

First discuss with the children what “Yes we can” means to them…answers will vary of course.
Together we can…
Help one another- Ensure all children receive a quality education-Provide health care for all people
You’ll Need:

An empty can with a lid if possible – I used a cocoa tin but you can use a coffee can, or oatmeal container
Adhesive backed craft foam or cardstock paper to fit your container
Family photos
Embellishments like poms-poms, ribbon, glitter, or stickers
Permanent marker
Scissors and possibly a utility knife
Glue stick and possibly glue dots
Pencil
How to make it:

First measure and mark a piece of the craft foam so that will wrap around the can. I really like using the sticky-back foam because it is totally mess free and there was no drying time needed.
Now select and cut family photos to glue on the can. Use a glue stick to apply the photos and other embellishments like ribbons, stars etc. You may need a hot glue gun or glue dots for some other embellishments. I favor glue dots!
Carefully cut a slot in the lid using your scissors or a utility knife (adults only please).
Secure the lid and your can is ready.

Whenever you have spare change or just feel inspired…add the money to the can. As a family, establish where the money will go when the can is full and don’t forget when it’s empty to begin collecting again.
Extra Tips and Variations
If you don’t have a can with a lid you can make a lid by covering the top if the can with a piece of fabric or felt. Secure it with a rubber band and cut a small slit in the fabric for the money hole. You can also simply leave the top open …it will still hold money and that’s what matters.
