Mother's Day Crafts for Older Kids

Often children from ages 10 - 13 can't really afford to buy Mom
a more mature gift for Mother's Day, yet they've out grown the
more simple gift making ideas. We've provided some suggestions
for Mother's Day Gifts older children make and give to mom!
Kids will have fun adding their own creative flare.

Free print out for Mom:
You know your Mom deserves something really special this year!
In the past you've done flowers...chocolates...perfume etc.
This year give her the precious gift of your time.
Use the links below to print out checks for her to
redeem at any time. Mom can fill them out herself or
you can write in the value of each check. Duplicate
items that Mom regularly needs. For example, dishes,
laundry folding, foot rubs.....

Then make a check book cover, decorated with a unique flair!
Fold paper in thirds. Make a pouch with one of the folds and staple the edges. Place the checks into the pouch and decorate the cover flap.
Tie a ribbon and note card around the closed check book.

Treasure Box
Cover a wooden cigar box with photos or dried flowers.
Glue the items on then cover with a few coats of "Modge Podge"
(craft store) according to the directions. Line the inside with fabric
and fill with family photos, poems...Mom can add more later.

Picture Frame Art
Use craft glue or a hot glue gun to decorate a picture frame.
Favorite decorating items are: Shells, buttons, silk flowers
and polished rocks. If you don't have enough to cover the
entire frame, place smaller arrangements in the corner.
Place your favorite photo inside or print out this Poem!

CD
Burn a CD mix of Mom's favorite songs.
Decorate the case and cover especially for her!

Decorative Soap Bars
Bar of soap ( regular or glycerin), acrylic paints, paintbrushes
aluminum coffee can, a large pot,
canning wax or a white candle

Paint designs on the soap with the acrylics, while you create a double boiler. Put the coffee can in a pot half-filled with water. Drop in wax and melt it over low heat. Then use a disposable paintbrush to cover the design on top of the soap. Let the wax dry. The protective coating will allow the soap to be used without washing away the picture.

Pretty Potted Plants:
Decorate the outside of a small terracotta flower pot with paint,
shells, rocks or dried flowers. Tie or glue, a ribbon around the rim of the pot.
Include a packet of seeds to plant in the pot. If you buy the herb or flower seeds first, paint a picture of that particular plant on the outside of the pot. An alternative to buying seeds...
place a small cup of water into the pot after you are through decorating. Place a few household plant clippings in the water to get them started.

Personalized Clock
Pop the plastic cover off an inexpensive clock and remove the clock face. Cut prepared artwork to the same size as the clock face and add numbers around the edge. Slide the artwork in place and replace the plastic cover.
Note: If you cannot remove the clock face, paint and decorate around the hands.

Yummy Chocolate melting Spoons
Perfect for the coffee drinking Mom

Dip colored plastic spoons in melted dark, milk or white chocolate
(or candy coating) and top with multicolored or glittery sprinkles.
Wrap in clear or colored cellophane, tied with ribbon. For a special
addition to this yummy gift, glue a photo onto a square of construction paper for a gift tag.
