Tips to read before selecting a Halloween costume for your child.
• Select a costume that won't fall apart before the
night's festivities are over.
• Make sure the costume won't hamper your child's movement.
• Consider face paint as a safe alternative to masks,
especially for younger children.
• If the costume is elaborate, dress your child in simple clothing underneath.
This way they can easily change to play games or take a break.
• Solid color turtlenecks and sweat pants are an easy and comfortable
costume starter for kids. Add hats, wigs, capes, wings, face paint etc.
• Keep your child's restroom needs in mind...snaps, zippers, complicated
attire can ruin the evening or a party with an accident.
• Don't work yourself into a frenzy. This is supposed to be
fun for you and your child.
• If trick-or-treating after dusk, have kids carry a flashlight and use a glow
stick necklace to wear over the costume. Reflective tape on the treat bag
are also helpful. If you can work the safety aspects into the costume,
even better. For example a flashlight and easily be a light saber, a super
hero cape can be trimmed with reflective tape as can fairy wings or a
princess wand.
