Your Sixth Grader Will Learn

Sixth grade can be the end of elementary or the beginning of middle school. Regardless of your students situation, the academic focus will be?on utilizing the basic skills proficiently. Expect considerable review of previously taught material. The teaching staff at this level are usually subject specialists.
As a result, your student will most likely have more than one instructor in throughout the day.

In 6th Grade Students may learn to:
  • Use all stages of the writing process
    (organizing, drafting, revising, and editing).
  • Write essays, reports, letters, stories, and poems.
  • Use Latin and Greek derivatives to increase their vocabulary.
  • Identify and explain the essential ideas of there textbooks.
  • Understand ancient and early civilizations.
  • Identify major chronological events in history.
  • Perform all operations for rational numbers.
  • Write, simplify, and manipulate expressions and equations in all areas of problem solving; ratios, proportions and geometry.
  • Develop and conduct simple scientific experiments.
  • Understand the concepts of gravity, motion, energy,
    chemical compounds, the ecosystem, the classification of matter, fossils, and weather.
