Your Fifth Grader Will Learn
Top 10 skills your child should learn this year.

By the time student reach fifth grade, they will take more responsibility
for their homework.  Using assignment notepads and organizing their schoolwork in a binder or notebook so it is easy to access. Class time
may be spent in on developing independent work habits.

Every school differs in expectations. Ask the teacher for the district's goal or, state benchmarks for this grade.

In 5th Grade Students may learn to:
  • Identify different forms of literature. 
  • Increase vocabulary through the use of synonyms,
     antonyms, homophones, and analogies. 
  • Recognize and use all parts of speech. 
  • Use all punctuation marks appropriately. 
  • Follow all capitalization rules. 
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals. 
  • Recognize relationships between fractions, decimals,
     and percents. 
  • Determine the perimeter of polygons and the area of 
     squares and rectangles. 
  • Use basic spelling rules. 
  • Understand basic United States history, geography, 
    economics, and government.
