Your Fourth Grader Will Learn
Top 10 skills your child should learn this year.

Fourth grades students step from the primary to the intermediate level of learning. Basic skills will no longer be the focus. They will learn to apply their knowledge in new subject areas such as social studies, science, and health. In mathematics, students will become more proficient in basic skills and begin to learn more sophisticated problem solving. Study habits will become very important as students will be asked to write reports, handle long-term assignments, and do projects.

Every school differs in expectations. Ask the teacher for the district's goal or, state benchmarks for this grade.

In 4th Grade Students may learn to:
  • Read and utilize textbooks.
  • Learn to take notes.
  • Use contextual clues for word definition.
  • Understand and use the steps of the writing process from pre-writing to the final draft.
