Your Third Grader Will Learn
Top 10 skills your child should learn this year.

This will be the last year devoted to teaching the very basic skills in reading, writing and math. More time is spent teaching new and more sophisticated skills as opposed to review. Most teachers will begin to assign regular nightly home work and to teach organization skills.

Every school differs in expectations. Ask the teacher for the district's goal or, state benchmarks for this grade.

In 3rd Grade Students may learn to:
  • Identify the plot, setting, and main characters
    of a story.
  • Use the dictionary.
  • Recognize simple subjects and predicates.
  • Write sentences with subject/verb agreement.
  • Write paragraphs expressing a main idea and
    supporting details.
  • Pronunciation of unfamiliar words and use
    the context to define.
  • Display comprehension skills in reading.
  • Add and subtract any numbers 100 - 1,000.
  • Multiply numbers to 9 x 9 and be able to determine
    each related division fact.
  • Measure using standard and metric units.
