Reach for the Stars
No time for a family trip? Planetarium too spendy?
Try this activity instead.
You'll need:
Frozen juice can, tape or rubber band, flashlight & paper.
Fold the paper and cut small stars, diamonds and circles. Just like making
a paper snowflake, but leave more paper. Cut both ends from the juice can. Wrap the star paper around one end securing it with tape or rubber band.
Insert the flashlight into the open end of the can. Turn out the lights. Turn on the flashlight and shine it towards the ceiling or wall. Shine the flashlight at an angle against the can will decrease distortion.
Older children may want to research real constellations
and recreate them onto the paper.
Your local library will have plenty of books to help.
"You are as bored as you are boring!"
Admittedly not a nice thing for a mother to say but it's
true!
Children who are force fed their entertainment with TV and video
games will eventually loose the ability to entertain themselves on a
rainy day. When viewed in moderation, TV is great entertainment.
Set a limit and combine the viewing with easy to do activities.
Mixed-Up Game
Turn an ordinary board game into a silly adventure in play.
Have your children gather pieces to a variety of games.
Using original rules of their own, they create, a unique game. Beware of subjecting yourself to these new rules
..
You could soon be "Colonel Mustard", landing on Boardwalk, paying the fee with your old maid card, while your opponent hollers out "BINGO!"...Unless, it's Tuesday, and the
moon is full. Some children may need help getting
this game off the ground...
Once they "get it" they'll have a ball !
