Recycle a plastic lei into colorful Bike Streamers with this fun craft. The leis provide long strips of plastic that are perfect for making streamers; I like this technique because you don't have to do much preparation to get a lot of streamer-like material, and you can make 6 - 8 streamers from one lei. Adding streamers to handlebars makes a bike go even faster—or so it seems! These Bike Streamers would also be great decorations for any party you might be planning!

Materials
  • 2 plastic leis in different colors
  • 1 piece of curling ribbon, cut into a 12-inch length
  • scissors
  • bike (you can use anything that has a handle: a wagon, a scooter, etc.)
Instructions
    1.
Cut the wire that holds each lei together.

    2.
Unravel each lei into long plastic strips.
    3.
Cut strips into approximately 18-inch pieces.
    null
    4.
Cut a 12-inch piece of curling ribbon.
    5.
Lay 6 plastic strips across the piece of curling ribbon, right in the center of the ribbon.
    6.
Tie curling ribbon tightly around the plastic strips.
    7.
Lift your streamers using the ribbon so that it forms a tassel. Now, you have your streamers.
    8.
Use the slack on your curling ribbon to tie your streamer to the end of the bike handlebar using the rest of the curling ribbon.
    null
    9.
    Curl curling ribbon, if desired.
    10.
    Repeat for second handlebar.
Tips
  • Before the party: If you are making streamers for a large event and will need many of them, make them in advance.
