Gardening is a terrific family activity. Your kids can start off with starting seeds, and then graduate to creating a butterfly garden! Even better is having your kids create their own Grassy Pet It's simple, easy, and fun!

What You Need

• shallow dish
• rubber band
• grass seed
• sawdust
• old nylon stocking

• scissors
• bucket or large bowl
• shallow dish
• markers

Instructions

1.
Cut a 10-inch piece of a nylon stocking to make a tube. Close one end with a rubber band.
2.
Turn it inside out and fill with 1-2 tablespoons of grass seed. Fill with firmly packed sawdust.
3.
Tie a knot with a rubber band to close. Trim off any extra nylon. This will be the head of your Grassy Pet.
4.
Fill a bucket or large bowl with water.
5.
Soak the head of the Grassy Pet in the water for approximately 5 minutes.
6.
Remove the head and set in a shallow dish of water. Place it in a sunny location.
7.
The next day the "head" should be dry enough for you to decorate with permanent markers or fabric paint. Draw an animal or a face. Be creative!
8.
In 10 to 12 days, you will notice that a soft green head of hair/fur has started to grow.
