Bread and Glue Playdough Recipe

Need something to do to keep kids occupied for a few hours? This fabulous Bread and Glue Playdough Recipe is easy to make with ingredients you already have around the house and makes a great boredom buster for lethargic kids who need an afternoon activity to keep busy.

Materials
  • 8 slices of day-old white bread (use inexpensive fluffy bread like Wonder)
  • 1/2 cup white glue
  • food coloring in color of your choice (optional)
  • flour for work space
  • wax paper
Instructions
    1.
    Remove crusts from bread slices.
    2.
    Break bread into small pieces and put in mixing bowl. Pour glue over bread. Mix the contents with one hand until it becomes a sticky mass.

    Take the clay out of the bowl and form it into a ball with your hands. Keep patting into a smaller ball until it becomes just slightly tacky.

    Dust your work surface with a small amount of flour and turn out your clay.
    5.
    Knead the clay gently until it becomes smoother and more pliable. Then, begin to knead firmly until texture is satiny (about 5 minutes).
    6.
    To the color the clay tear of portion needed , flatten it and add a few drops of food coloring directly onto clay (If you dont' want to color all of the clay simply tear the portion you want to color from the clay). Knead colored clay until satiny again. Add flour, if needed to achieve the proper texture.
    7.
    Once your child has used the clay to make sculptured nad is satified with them, simply air dry to harden. Drying times vary depending on the sculture's thickness. To speed up the drying process, place sculputres on cookie sheet and leave overnight in an unlit oven. Once dry, paint sculptures with acrylic paints (optional).
    8.
    Wrap remaining tightly with plastic wrrap to store. Always remember to seal the unused clay portion while playing or it will dry out.
Tips
Keep sticky, paint-covered hands from damaging walls and furniture by keeping a wet, soapy washcloth next to the project area.
