This Edible Haunted House is a really fun craft and serves as a super table centerpiece for a Halloween party!

Materials
  • single serving milk cartons (empty and washed)
  • graham crackers
  • decorations (candy corn, pumpkin candies, black licorice, "peeps" ghosts, chocolate bar miniatures, green decorating sugar, Necco Wafer Candies, Reese's Pieces, gum drops, etc.)
  • Royal Decorating Icing (see recipe below)
Instructions
  1. Completely open the top of the milk carton and thoroughly wash it out. Then staple or tape the top closed again.

  2. Place your carton on a sheet of waxed paper on top of heavy cardboard or a paper plate.

  3. Attach graham cracker squares to sides of carton by spreading icing/frosting on carton and pressing cracker firmly onto carton.

  4. Do the same for the roof using two graham cracker squares.

  5. For the front and back of the roof, cut a graham cracker in half diagonally to make a triangle and attach it the same way.

  6. Let the house harden for 10 minutes or so. This will make working with the roof much easier.

  7. Cover one side of the roof with frosting and place rows of candy corn all over the top. Repeat on the other side.

  8. You will use your "glue" frosting to attach all pieces of candy to the house and yard base. We used a miniature chocolate bar for a window and a cut piece of "Airheads Taffy" for the door. You can use small candies to make windows, doors, and walkways.

  9. Use your frosting decorating bag to make icicles and trim along the edges of your house.

  10. To create a scary tree in the yard, make a few 2-3 inch slices lengthwise in a piece of black licorice. Stand the licorice upright and attach it to the base with the "glue" frosting. You will need about a tablespoon to really hold it secure. Hold the tree upright for a few minutes until the "glue" has hardened.

  11. The walkway can be pretzels, Reese's pieces, hard candies, gumdrops, licorice strips, or chocolate kisses.

  12. Frost the entire base and sprinkle with green sugar to make the grass.

  13. Attach 1 or 2 "peeps" ghosts in the yard for extra effect.

Notes

Royal Decorator Icing:

  • 1/2 pound confectioner's sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter/margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons milk

Add a drop of yellow and red food color to make orange (optional). Mix all the ingredients together until smooth and easy to spread but not runny. You may need to add more sugar or milk to create the proper consistency. If you have a pastry bag, place frosting in bag and use a small tip. If not, put some frosting in a plastic sandwich bag and cut a hole in the corner diagonally.
